Deep into the Mist. The Magic of Gloomy Landscapes [Prague, Czech Republic]

Just another area which is more about its atmosphere caused by a particular time of the year and weather than the physical location. Following the road through the misty landscape in the outskirts of Prague (Czech Republic) it was simply impossible not to stop and immortalize the views on the pictures. Here’s the result—gloomy, even a bit frightening sceneries that are definitely not that often to see.

Under the Ceiling of the Sky. The Last Breath of a Decaying Villa [Italy]

Just another abandoned villa in Italy still hiding a beauty that slowly fades away. Not that much has left inside, only a living room with impressive furniture. At first sight it would seem that there are sure some abandoned places that deserve more atention and that would be true. However, the incredible composition of luxury and decay that time made inside this villa is definitely worth stopping by for a while.

Inside the Industrial Giant. A Stunning Abandoned Foundry [Czech Republic]

A huge space full of massive constructions covered with dust and filled with a specific smell of metal. Even if you’re not a big fan of decaying industrial sites, this abandoned foundry in the Czech Republic can easily steal a few hours of your life. No long descriptions this time—a plenty of metal constructions inside speaks louder than words.

A Nostalgic Corner. The Last Slivers of Elegance in the Decaying Villa [Italy]

It was a sunny September day in Italy and one more abandoned villa planned to visit. Having so many places in my plan I didn’t remember at all what made this one worth adding to the itineary. Crossing its dark and gloomy rooms, until the very last moment before reaching the last one on the floor, I didn’t expect to find anything more than just another decaying space. However, what I saw there was higher than any of my expectations. That’s why now, already some time after being back from the trip, I’m still happy to go there again—no matter that only virtually, watching the photos taken there. Reading further you can go for a quick walk through the abandoned villa and see one of the most beautiful things that can be found in such place.

Deep into the Mist. Early Morning on the Way to Geamăna [Romania]

One more trip which was about another dimension of travel than a physical location of the site. Time rather than place, weather and light rather than anything material that could be found there. It’s both easy and difficult to go on such trip. Since it’s mainly about the effects of the time of the day and weather, each direction is good. However, considering it lasts for a very short period of time you can’t take all directions and see the magic of early morning everywhere around. The thing that helped me to choose the way that time was my main destination—Geamăna, an abandoned village in Romania. In order to reach it I had to cross a misty forest hiding some old wooden buildings—the only sign that the area is not completely forgotten.

In the Kingdom of the God of the Sea. Breathtaking Decaying Baths [Romania]

One of the most famous and beautiful abandoned places in Romania. Proudly holding the name of the Roman god of the sea, these baths attract attention even of those who come to the resort town where the great building is situated because of the primary purpose of the area rather than to explore forgotten places. I didn’t spend too much time there, however, this one hour or so was enough to see passersby stopping by the magnificent walls and trying to see what is hidden inside.

Where the City Ends. A Quick Look on the Suburbs of Timișoara [Romania]

DISCLAIMER. Timișoara is a nice city with lots of interesting places to see, including historical monuments and museums. The decision to spend some time in the grey suburbs of the city instead of its lively centre was the result of my subjective opinion. This article cannot be treated as a travel guide while planning a trip to Timișoara.

The last stop of the bus that went in the direction I needed was just where Timișoara ends, and this is how some ‘extra’ area to explore appeared in my trip plan—no matter how unplanned. The thing that made me stop there were some old neglected buildings and atmosphere so different from the city centre.

Early Morning Among Rusty Carriages. Decaying Trains near the Railway Station [Romania]

A good thing about travelling by train is that before reaching the main destination you can find some railway objects to explore right near the station where you arrive. That is always a nice surprise, especially as you don’t plan to see anything there. An example of such unexpected find are decaying railway carriages that I saw near the train station in a town in southwestern Romania. I was also lucky to go there early in the morning when the area was covered with the colours of sunrise and street lights.

Where a Devil Lives. An Abandoned Villa on the Hill [Czech Republic]

One of the trips spent exploring abandoned places in the Czech Republic brought me to an old decaying villa situated in the southern part of the country. At first sight the exterior of the building was more beautiful than its interior, which in other words means that there was no point to stay inside longer. However, there was one ‘hellish’ detail in the villa which had an impact on its atmosphere and made me spend there a bit more time.

A Soft Melody on the Wind. The Weird House of Pans [Mažonys, Lithuania]

One sunny May morning I went to Mažonys (Lithuania), a village which is so small that even a bus driver didn’t know where exactly it is situated. Just another settlement far from big cities, and at first sight seems that there’s nothing extraordinary about it. However, one of the houses there is so unusual that I simply couldn’t not go there.
