Open, but No Staff Inside: A Self-Service Pub in the Forest [Lipová-lázně, Czech Republic]

What would you like to find the most during a long hiking trip? How about a pub in the middle of the forest? You might think it’s impossible because nobody would work that far from civilization. But no problem—this can be a self-service pub like ‘The Forest Pub’ (Lesní bar in Czech) near the village of Lipová-lázně in the Czech Republic.

The story of the ‘Forest Pub’ began when Mr. Pavlíček created a resting spot near a forest road. He would leave a few drinks in the stream to enjoy on his way home from work. One day, a tourist took one of his drinks and left 10 Czech crowns. Inspired, Mr. Pavlíček left 10 drinks next time and found 100 Czech crowns. That’s how the idea of the self-service forest pub was born.

Created in 2007, the site has evolved significantly. Now it includes a wooden shed where tourists can buy drinks, sausages, snacks, and more. There’s also a bonfire nearby, so once you’re there, all you need to do is put money in the safe (or make a bank transfer in emergencies), take some food and drinks, and enjoy your time in this cozy spot.
