Did you know where the most famous French tourist attraction can also be found? While it’s true that the Eiffel Tower is in Paris, replicas of this iconic structure exist far beyond France. One of the most surprising is in Slobozia, Romania. What makes this even more bizarre is its location—right in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by fields.
This 54-meter-tall replica was built in 1996 by Ilie Alexandru, a Romanian billionaire. He developed the Hermes Holiday Park in the same area, featuring attractions like a zoo, a theater, and gardens. While the park initially drew many visitors, things took a drastic turn in 1997 when Alexandru was arrested for fraud and imprisoned. Ownership of the park transferred to a bank, and most of the attractions were eventually shut down.
Today, the Eiffel Tower replica stands abandoned, slowly decaying in the fields. Its eerie, weathered appearance has turned it into an even more fascinating sight—a forgotten relic of grander ambitions.
