What do you usually expect to find at a bus stop? Benches? A small roof for shelter from the rain? How about a cozy, fully furnished room with a mini library? For the residents of a small village in the Třebíč District, Czech Republic, waiting for the bus is no problem—they have what might be the coziest bus stop ever.It all began 10 years ago when a local resident from a nearby village started taking care of the bus stop. She kept it clean and brought flowers to brighten it up. While this sounds idyllic, it was just the start of the transformation. A few years ago, a woman who owned a nearby cottage visited the stop. Inspired by a train station where a waiting room had been turned into a mini library, she suggested doing the same here. The idea was quickly embraced by the woman already maintaining the site and the village mayor.
Today, the bus stop is a charming space filled with furniture, decorations, and books. It’s worth noting that this transformation wasn’t an one-time effort. The project is the result of ongoing collaboration between local authorities and residents. The municipality handled structural improvements, like installing doors and fixing the floor, while the villagers added personal touches like a clock, a calendar, and various decorations to make it more welcoming. The result speaks for itself. The guestbook, left on the table, is full of messages from visitors who admire the unique charm of this little bus stop. Here are some photos and a video to give you a quick glimpse of this spectacular spot.
Surprisingly, this isn’t the only bus stop of its kind in the area. Just a few dozen kilometers away, there’s another bus stop library—be sure to check it out too!
