A decaying wooden church and belfry, gloomy even despite the snow surrounding them. That is a sad image of the abandoned Greek Catholic Dormition of the Mother of God church in Babice, a village in Southeastern Poland. Once beautiful temple, today significally bitten by time and little by little getting closer to the ground. Situated on a hill so steep that simply seeing it’s enough to become discouraged from climbing up lose any hope to find easier way to reach the top.

The Abandoned Resort Hotel ‘G’ [Poland]

Nothing more paradoxical than reading on the Internet an attractive offer of a beautifully situated resort hotel when in fact the site is already abandoned. It would be priceless to see the faces of tourists who chose it for the stay but after entering the doors met there no staff and guests, as if they all suddenly disappeared. That’s the current situation of an abandoned resort hotel in a town on the south of Poland—still ‘in use’ virtually, it’s already waiting for decay to take over it.

An Abandoned Neo-Gothic Church [Poland]

Not each abandoned site sticks in the mind for so long as this decaying church. Seeing this temple on the photos was more than enough to decide to find it, even despite knowing nothing at all about the place. Thus there was no other way than start some research based on very general and not fully warranted assumptions. Luckily the mentioned guesses appeared to be sharp enough scissors to cut the way through the jungle of information and finally reach this church, situated in one Polish village.

The Abandoned Elevator PZZ Kozłów [Kozłów, Poland]

Being in Kozłów (Poland) it’s impossible not to notice great ruins surrounded by endless fields. Seeing high concrete walls is hard to simply pass through not entering the site. However, such gloomy view on this great decaying building leaves no doubt that some time ago it was the most important industrial plant in the area and makes wonder what caused its fall.

The Abandoned House ‘Empty Cages’ [Poland]

It was a small red brick cabin near the road crossing one village in Poland. A brightly green ivy covering on the roof, lack of the doors, as well as holes in the windows, let assume that decay had already moved there and invited to have a look on the painful agony of this once beautiful house. Thus, there was nothing else to do but cross a wild jungle surrounding the building and enter its decaying walls.

The Abandoned House ‘Pale Blueness’ [Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland]

The thing which made me cross kilometres of forests and fields of Subcarpathia (Poland) that time was a an abandoned Greek Catholic church in one remote village. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?), when I came, I did not find a key holder at home, so I decided not to waste time and explore the area around. That decision, no matter how quickly made, turned to be a great idea. It was enough to go along the road crossing the village and look around a bit to see an old abandoned cabin hidden among trees.

A Fairytale Garden [Dobczyce, Poland]

You can never know what is hiding behind high fences of possessions when you walk along the street—the same as it happened to me when passing through Dobczyce, a small town in southern Poland. The thing that attracted my attention and made me take a closer look on the place was a toy dog-basketball player put in a fancy swing. On my way through small towns and villages I’d already seen plenty of garden decorations but there was something about the mentioned dog in the swing suggesting that there was something more behind the fence than just ordinary garden sculptures.

Abandoned Greenhouses [Niezdów, Poland]

It’s always a nice surprise to find a place you don’t know about before reaching the final point of the trip. I was on the way to quite well known site in the area I was visiting when I saw something that made me stop and turn off the road. As it appeared later, it was worth to do that.

The Abandoned Saint Barbara’s Chapel [Bukowno, Poland]

I got to know about this chapel by accident while looking for the information about another abandoned site and that was definitely one of my luckiest accidental finds. There are no better words to describe that, as it does not happen too often to find a place like this. An elegant tower of the building turns it into a real pearl of the area where it is located, and its stone walls hide behind quite well preserved and mystically charming interior.

The Junk Shop ‘Stary Kufer’ [Kraków, Poland]

An oldfashioned pram stroller and some other stuff put near the entrance to a tenement house on one of the streets in Kraków suggested that there’s something extraordinary hiding behind the doors. That impression wasn’t misleading.
